Large crowds are set to gather in the Isle of Man's capital later for an "evening full of colour, community and celebration" as the annual Bonfire Night display takes place.

The extravaganza over Douglas Bay attracts people from around the island to Harris Promenade each year.

Organised by the city's local authority, the event starts with a best guy competition at 18:00 GMT followed by the fireworks display itself at 18:30.

Douglas Council said the "much-loved community event" would light up Douglas Bay "with colour, music, and excitement for everyone to enjoy".

Although the council said Harris Promenade would be the "optimal viewing area", vantage points on the headlands in Douglas and Onchan are also expected to be congested around the time of the display.

Councillor Natalie Byron-Teare said the event was a "much-anticipated highlight of the year for families and friends across the island".

Crowds are also expected to gather in the west of the island as Peel Commissioners hold their annual display.

That event begins with the lighting of a bonfire on the beach at 19:00, with the fireworks display at 19:30 from the breakwater.

However, the annual event over the Mooragh Park in Ramsey, which had been due to take place on Sunday, was cancelled on safety grounds after strong winds were forecasted.
