A boy, 16, has been charged with attempted murder after a man was shot in a street.

The 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries after being attacked on Hampden Crescent in the Gorton area of Manchester, at about 17:45 BST on 7 October, Greater Manchester Police said.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named, was also charged with possession of a bladed article and will appear at Manchester Youth Court later.

A man, 18, arrested earlier in the week has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Det Ch Insp Nicola McCulloch said it was a "shocking incident", adding: "Our investigation is very much ongoing and our call for witnesses and footage remains in place.

"We urge anyone who has not yet come forward to do so."
