A joint police and fire investigation is under way into the cause of a blaze that tore through Derby's former La Gondola restaurant.

Derbyshire Police said it was called to the site in Osmaston Road at about 19:00 BST on Sunday.

On Monday the force said a woman found at the derelict building was treated for injuries not believed to be serious.

A road closure between the junctions of Reginald Street and Douglas Street remained in force, police said, with Grange Street and Bateman Street also shut.

On Monday, Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service was still at the scene of the former restaurant, empty since 2009.

Crews from Ascot Drive Fire Station were damping down and monitoring hotspots to prevent any further flare-ups.

A police spokesperson said: "At this time we are carrying out a number of lines of inquiry and we are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information."

La Gondola had been a popular spot in the 1970s and 80s. In 2006 it featured on celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares TV programme.

Plans to demolish the restaurant and build two blocks of flats in its place were approved in February.
