A man has been arrested after a pet died and his owner was injured in a dog attack.

Police said the 51-year-old man from Peterborough was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and being in charge of a dangerous dog out of control, causing injury, after the incident near Bretton Crematorium last month.

Three dogs were seized after a search of his property and taken to secure kennels. The man was bailed to return to Thorpe Wood police station on 16 January.

Przemek Bednarczyk said his one-year-old Hungarian Vizsla, Archie, died five days after the attack, while he underwent surgery on his thumb and wrist at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

Police previously said they were called to Walton Road, Marholm, at 17:44 BST on 12 September to reports that three other dogs had attacked a man and his dog.

"Both the man and his dog were injured, and the man was taken to hospital by paramedics for treatment to his hand," a spokesperson for the force said.

"The man walking the three dogs did not speak to the victim afterwards and walked away on foot towards Woodcroft Road."

The investigation continues.
