Hotels to be demolished for new apartments scheme

The plan will see the demolition of the Colwyn Hotel, Skye Hotel and Sandpiper Apartments

Proposals to demolish two hotels and replace them with 51 modern apartments on Blackpool's South Shore promenade have been approved by planners.
The plans will see the Colwyn Hotel, Skye Hotel and Sandpiper Apartments demolished and replaced with a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom apartments.
They are part of a multimillion-pound project aimed at revitalising the promenade south of Blackpool Pleasure Beach Resort.
The plans were approved by Blackpool Council more than three years after being submitted.
The scheme will see developers recreate the original crescent, which will bring together the north and south ends of a terrace by completing the extension to the Hampton by Hilton between them.
Two new white properties, featuring the apartments at either end, will bookend the development.
In November last year, the south end of the development was approved by planners.
This included the demolition of the Headlands Hotel and the construction of a new block with 41 apartments.
Now an application to develop the slightly larger north end has been given the go ahead.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), the new "high quality" apartments will have balconies or terraces, with each apartment having its own dedicated parking space on site.
