Historic England has tasked architects to draw up plans for the reuse of the site, which including plans for the pub, hotel or events centre.

Will Tait of Colliers said the public body wanted to buyers who would restore and operate the building "in a sympathetic way", while enabling the public to access t on "at least an occasional basis".

Ms Dewar said Baguley Hall had stood for 900 years, and boasted the "most incredible great hall with tall, mullioned windows and unusual timber frame".

"We’re looking forward to working with Colliers to find prospective buyers or long-term tenants to find an exciting new use for this stunning site.”
