Second fire this year at scrap metal yard in Kent

  • Published

Firefighters tackling a blaze at a scrap metal yard in Kent have confirmed the fire has been extinguished and residents living near the site no longer need to keep windows and doors closed.

At its peak 10 fire engines and a water vehicle were at the scene of the blaze at the London Scrap Terminal in Crete Hall Road, Gravesend, which was reported at just after 06:00 BST on Wednesday.

In May, a fire at the same site saw 5,000 tonnes of scrap metal catch fire.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "No remaining hotspots were found, and firefighting operations are now complete. Firefighters will continue to monitor this periodically to make sure the site remains safe."

"There are no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known," they added.
