A teenage duo who wash road signs around a town have said it "feels really good" seeing the signage "all clean", adding that the results look "so cutesy".

Ellie, 17, and 19-year-old Tom estimate they have cleaned up to 30 dirty road signs around their hometown of Wantage, in Oxfordshire.

"I got into this through going around Wantage and seeing some of the disgusting signs that are here and wanting to do more," Ellie explained to the BBC.

Oxfordshire County Council said it was "grateful to all people who want to volunteer in their communities", and urged Ellie and Tom to sign up to its Oxfordshire Together programme.

Tom said, having first come about when the pair were "talking about what we could get up to at the weekends", the results were "really satisfying".

The pair added they were now receiving messages from friends with requests to clean specific signs.

The council said: "We welcome volunteers who are willing to help carry out a number of tasks including vegetation cut back, weed control and sign cleaning."

It added that it provided "training and equipment to enable people to carry out the works safely".
