Southampton's Itchen Bridge is set to close ahead of Storm Ciarán.

The city council said the route linking Woolston to the city centre would be shut from 19:00 GMT.

The authority said the toll bridge, over the River Itchen, would stay closed until the weather significantly subsided.

An amber severe weather warning for wind along the south coast runs from 06:00 - 20:00 GMT on Thursday with winds expected to reach 70-80mph.

Buses that would normally cross the bridge will be redirected. Passengers are being urged to check their bus operators' website before setting out.

Weston Parade, which runs along the waterfront from Netley Abbey to Weston, remains closed as a precaution due to the elevated tide.

Southampton Airport said any decision to delay, postpone or cancel flights "would be taken by the airline who is the operator".

Elsewhere, Isle of Wight Council has issued a series of advice and warnings after roads were left impassable, trains stopped operating and homes were flooded on Wednesday last week.
