A pulley system has been introduced at a Cornwall beach bar to stop staff having to carry heavy beer kegs up and down 133 steps.

Lusty Glaze Beach, in Newquay, is a privately-owned secluded cove with the steps the only means of access.

Events manager Robin Parris said: "Everything used to go up and down by hand, including the kegs.

"The big ones, two people at a time, on a stretcher in the old days, but now things are a little bit quicker."

Robin Parris said the aim of the zip line was to 'make life easier'

Morgan Perkins, a member of staff, said: "It makes it so much easier.

"Normally carrying these kegs down would take all day... because it's normally a two-person lift."

He said they could now get about 20 kegs down onto the beach in two hours.

Mr Parris added: "It was just born out of practicality. What can we do to make life easier, save some legs, just get things done quicker?"
