The westbound M27 at Portsbridge roundabout will be shut over the weekend

Part of a major motorway will be closed for the whole weekend.

National Highways said the westbound M27 at Portsbridge roundabout in Portsmouth will shut from 21:00 BST on Friday until 06:00 on Monday.

Diversions will be in place, the company said.

The closure is part of a £5m project to upgrade drainage systems, resurface bridge decks and repair the concrete underneath both bridges.

National Highways said the work would "substantially improve the longevity of the two bridges".

The project began on 5 June and is expected to be completed at the end of November.

There will be another weekend closure of the same stretch of motorway from 26-29 September and overnight closures from 21:00 to 06:00 from 29 September to 3 October.

There will also be an overnight closure of the eastbound carriageway from 3-7 November.
