Motorists have faced delays on the Ouse Bridge since March 2022

After more than two years of disruption motorists can again cross a motorway bridge at 70mph (113km/h).

On Tuesday the 50mph (80km/h) speed restriction was increased to 70mph (113km/h) on the eastbound carriageway of the M62 Ouse Bridge, between Howden and Goole in East Yorkshire.

And earlier, the limit was also restored to 70mph on the westbound carriage.

Restrictions of 30mph (48km/h) have been in place intermittently since March 2022, when safety issues with the bridge's joints were discovered.

Lanes one and two and the hard shoulder are now open on the eastbound carriageway, and lanes one and two are now open on the westbound carriageway.

National Highways said they predicted lane three of both carriageways would be open by 28 October, but the hard shoulder would remain closed on the westbound carriageway while works are completed.

The organisation also said motorists should expect some full overnight closures and lane closures while work continues, but daytime travel will not be affected.
