A berthing trial for a 502ft (153m) long ship in Channel Island and Portsmouth harbours is set to take place next week.

The trial by DFDS is part of contingency planning by the States of Guernsey and Government of Jersey.

The ship will leave Portsmouth on Monday and attempt to berth in St Peter Port Harbour at 08:00 BST on Tuesday, before going on to St Helier later in the day.

DFDS is one of three companies shortlisted to run ferry services to and from the Channel Islands when the current contract ends.

Condor Ferries' current agreements with Jersey and Guernsey ends in April 2025, with the successful bidder expected to run the services for 15 years.

Condor is also bidding for the next contract, as is Irish Ferries.

The latest DFDS berthing trial had been scheduled for earlier this week, but it was postponed due to poor weather.

It is the third ship to be trialled by the company in the last year.

Jersey's Minister for Economic Development Kirsten Morel has said the announcement of which firm had secured the contract would be made this month.
