A man has admitted causing the death of a motorcyclist in a crash in North Yorkshire.

Gregory Newcombe, 26, was riding a Harley-Davidson when he was struck by a Ford Fiesta on the A684 near Bedale on 10 July 2022.

The driver of the Ford, Cameron Ward, 30, appeared at York Crown Court on Tuesday morning.

He pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving, causing death while driving a vehicle while unlicensed or insured, and perverting the course of justice.

The court heard Ward, of Oak Drive in Sowerby, had tried to get insurance cover after the crash, having been uninsured at the time.

He will return to the court on 11 October for sentencing.

Judge Sean Morris told the defendant to "put his affairs in order", as he would likely face a custodial sentence.

At the time of his death, the family of Mr Newcombe, from Romanby in Northallerton, described him as a "much-loved son and brother and a great friend to many".
