A fire at a recycling yard in Ilkeston which left smoke drifting above the town was accidental, officials have said.
Emergency crews were called to Ward Recycling on Griffon Road at about 11:20 GMT on Thursday.
The flames, in an area for recycling scrap cars, were quickly contained and no injuries have been reported.
A fire service investigation confirmed the cause was accidental but no further details have been released.
Smoke and flames led to residents and workers being advised to avoid the area
Fire crews from Ilkeston, Heanor, Nottingham Road, Long Eaton, Clay Cross, Ascot Drive, Wirksworth, Crich, and Nottinghamshire's Stapleford, Eastwood, and Ashfield stations attended the scene supported by an aerial ladder platform, water carrier, incident command unit, welfare unit and high volume pump.
Derbyshire police and emergency planning officers were also in attendance.
Crews were scaled back shortly before 16:00, with two fire engines and the aerial ladder platform remaining on scene until shortly after 17:00.
Residents and workers were initially advised to avoid the scene but roads were opened soon after.
