A man and a woman arrested after a baby died unexpectedly will face no further action, police have confirmed.

Officers went to an address in Buffett Way, Colchester, on 12 May amid concerns for the welfare of a baby. The infant died in hospital the following day.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said "the fullest and most expedient investigation possible" had been carried out.

They added: "Following that investigation and a post-mortem [examination], we have released the man and woman arrested from their bail conditions and they will face no further action."

A file could now be prepared for the coroner, the force added.
