Revised plans for 1,500-home development submitted

The original application was submitted to North Yorkshire Council two years ago

Plans for a development of about 1,500 new homes on the edge of a village in North Yorkshire have been submitted after changes to the developer's original application.
Banks Property said it had been working with North Yorkshire Council's planning officers and hoped the new plans, for Eggborough, near Selby, would be presented to a council planning committee before the end of the year.
The developer first submitted a planning application for the site in October 2023.
Banks Property said its revised plans would deliver improved local transport links, a new primary school, a local centre including shops and a new public space.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), access arrangements initially proposed for Weeland Road had been replaced with a single roundabout as part of the latest proposals.
Meanwhile, changes had also been made to an area identified for the planned primary school, as well as internal roads and the landscaping of the development.
The original application attracted over 350 comments from the public, with 313 of those objecting to the plans and 41 letters of support.
Objectors claimed the development would damage the local community and the area's infrastructure would be unable to cope with the amount of houses proposed.
'Landmark development'
Eggborough and Kellington Parish Council submitted an objection in 2023 on the basis that the scheme, in open countryside, was against the principles of the Local Plan in place at the time.
The site was earmarked for housing in the emerging Local Plan for Selby, but work on that document was halted earlier this year following an announcement on higher targets for housing within North Yorkshire.
Jamilah Hassan, community relations manager at Banks Group, said the company wanted to create a "high quality, well-connected and sustainable extension to Eggborough", which she said would deliver a wide range of benefits to the local community, economy and environment.
Ms Hassan added: "Since submitting our initial planning application, we've been working on the fine detail of our proposals in order to ensure we can maximise these benefits and have now submitted updated plans and assessments which we're confident does just that.
"Ensuring there is sufficient affordable quality housing will also mean everyone can access the housing ladder, most especially local younger people and families who want to move to or stay in the area.
"This site offers the opportunity to create a landmark development that will help Eggborough continue to thrive for decades to come, and we are hopeful we will be able to bring our plans for it before North Yorkshire Council's planning committee before the end of the year."
A total of 295 full-time jobs would be supported on the Eggborough West site during construction, according to Banks Group.
