Residents inspire village speed limit change
- Published
Speed limits through a village have been lowered in response to pleas from residents.
The legal limit on the A689 through Newton Bewley, a village near Hartlepool, will fall from 50mph to 40mph.
Hartlepool Borough Council said works on measures associated with the reduction will begin on Monday.
They include the installation of new signs, a pedestrian crossing point and road markings, with the new limit enforced when the work is complete.
There will be "periodic" lane closures on Stockton Road during off-peak hours as the work is carried out, a council spokesman said.
