A pedestrian killed in a car crash was a "loving son, brother and father", his family has said.

Robert Herring was killed when three cars crashed on the A689 between Newton Bewley and Hartlepool on 4 January.

His family paid tribute to the 38-year-old, known as Robbie, as they thanked members of the public and the emergency services for their help at the scene.

Cleveland Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

In a statement, Mr Herring's family said he was a "loving son, brother, and father of two children".

A police spokeswoman said: "Our thoughts remain with Robert's family at this extremely difficult time."
