An alleged drugs trafficker wanted by police since 2020 has been arrested in Benidorm after an international manhunt.

A 50-year-old man from Manchester was held on 22 April as he checked into a hotel in the Spanish resort.

The arrest came as part of a joint investigation by Greater Manchester Police (GMP), the National Crime Agency, and Spanish National Police.

He has been charged with conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs.

Attempts are now being made to extradite him to the UK.

Detective Inspector Rick Castley from GMP's Serious Organised Crime Group said the force's determination to find the suspect "had not faltered over the years".

“Working with our international partners, we will continue to make sure wanted suspects live life always looking over their shoulder," he added.
