Guernsey's Carpetright store closes

The store in St. Peter Port has closed with immediate effect.

The Guernsey branch of Carpetright has closed following the national chain going into administration.

It is one of the more than 200 stores that has shut, resulting in more than 1,500 job losses.

A partial takeover by the company Tapi Carpets & Floors has helped save 54 stores, but Guernsey's is not included in that deal.

A notice on the door local store announced the closure to customers.

The message blamed "challenging trading conditions" and also apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused.

PwC, external has been appointed as the administrators.

Tapi Carpets & Floors' purchase includes the Carpetright brand name, the company's intellectual property, two warehouses and the 54 stores.
