Pedestrian dies following car collision

A pedestrian in his 70s has died after being hit by a car in St Ives.

Devon & Cornwall Police say the driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

The pedestrian was walking on Tregenna Place, St Ives at the junction with Gabriel Place on Saturday when the incident happened, just before 21:00 GMT.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his next of kin have been told.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
