Taxi drivers will face higher fees for licence renewals

Taxi drivers, dog breeders and street traders could all see their licence fees increase.

The changes look set to include a £20 increase for taxi drivers in Telford and Wrekin to renew their licence for 12 months, or a £45 increase for a five-year renewal.

Applications for street trading could go up in cost from £200 to £290. Scrap metal fees could also go up.

Telford and Wrekin Council said it needs to raise the prices to cover the costs of administering and monitoring them.

Members of its licensing committee is due to meet to discuss the charges on Wednesday.

If they approve the increases, they will come into effect from 1 April.

A 28-day consultation on the proposals was held in January, the council said, but no-one objected to the increase.
