Former pub to be bulldozed and replaced by shop
- Published
A “run-down and dilapidated" former pub will be demolished to make way for flats and a convenience store.
The Bear and Staff on Princethorpe Way in Coventry opened in the 1960s, but has been closed since 2016.
A Chinese takeaway on the same site, which shut in May 2023, will also go to make way for the shop, which will take on 15 staff.
One person who commented on the planning application said: "The area at the moment is an eyesore, looks like a tip and downgrades the surrounding area in which we live."
Two people objected, arguing the area did not need another convenience store, but Coventry City Council approved the plans.
