A scheme where children can swim for 10p is set to run again in the Easter holidays and May half-term break.

More than 800 young people took part in the discounted project at Barrow Leisure Centre in February half term, a report found.

Westmorland and Furness Council has previously provided funding for the initiative, which enables children to swim and receive a meal afterwards for 10p, at both Dalton and Barrow leisure centres in October and February.

A report prepared for the Locality Board stated the scheme has led to an increase in social connections, physical activity and healthy eating.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service said councillors have been recommended to approve funds for the scheme to take place for one week in the Easter holidays and again May half term.

A report found: "The feedback from both leisure centres has been extremely positive with uptake on places offered."

It added that children who would "not normally access" these centres took advantage of the offer.

The plan will go before the council at a meeting on 1 April.
