Property owner fined after failing to fix door

Magistrates imposed a fine and other fees totalling more than £20,000

A property owner who failed to replace the main doors to a block of flats after they were smashed has been ordered to pay more than £20,000.
Telford and Wrekin Council said it chose to prosecute TF2 Investments Ltd and its sole director, Jagroop Singh Moore, after he failed to comply with orders to make the building secure.
The council said that by failing to fix the door to the property in Donnington, he was "allowing anyone to access the building and putting the safety of tenants at risk". The council added it was committed to ensuring "residents feel safe in their homes".
The sum imposed by Kidderminster magistrates on Monday included a fine, compensation and more than £7,000 in legal fees.
The council said it took action after the notices were issued in 2023 against Mr Singh and the company, which it said was no longer trading.
It said Mr Singh failed to comply so it carried out the work on the flats at The Parade in Donnington instead.
Richard Overton, the councillor responsible for housing and enforcement, said: "Our priority is to ensure residents feel safe in their homes, which is why we acted swiftly to secure the building and replace the damaged door."
