A consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist is returning to Guernsey in a permanent role at the Medical Specialist Group (MSG).

Alexander Gyesi-Appiah worked in the island from 2018 to 2019 and will be replacing a former consultant who retired in July.

The MSG, which is contracted to provide secondary healthcare, said Mr Gyesi-Appiah had advanced skills in advanced labour wards and emergency gynaecology and early pregnancy.

MSG Chair Dr Steve Evans said he would be bringing "extensive knowledge in his field" and would "provide excellent care to women".

"He has already had an opportunity to build close rapports with many of the staff and doctors here at the MSG, who are thrilled to welcome him back," he said.

The MSG said he had a special interest in managing two-week wait pathways, menopause and hormone replacement therapy, outpatient hysteroscopy, benign and early gynaecological cancer surgery, vaginal surgery, and labour ward management.

Mr Gyesi-Appiah said he was "very much looking forward to taking on a permanent post".

"Working here for a year as a locum helped me to establish a bond with the MSG and Guernsey, and I'm excited about the chance to further my education and experience in patient care on the island."
