A 17-year-old boy has died and two teenagers arrested after a hit-and-run.

Police were called to Dawlish Drive, Bentilee, in Stoke-on-Trent, on Friday evening after reports a teenager had been struck by a car. The driver of the car did not stay at the scene and drove off after it happened, Staffordshire Police said.

The boy was taken to hospital with critical injuries but died in the early hours. His family were being supported by specialist officers.

Two boys from Stoke-on-Trent, aged 16 and 17, have both been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remained in custody on Saturday.

Dawlish Drive, Wellfield Road and Bargrave Street were all closed while West Midlands Ambulance Service worked at the scene on Friday evening.

Detectives had been working hard since the collision to trace the driver of the car and the circumstances around the incident, police said.

Anyone who saw what happened or who had any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage of the area at the time should contact police.
