A man has been sentenced after hitting a pedestrian in a hit-and-run collision on an e-bike.

Patrick Douglas, 21, of Fishbourne Lane, appeared at Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday after admitting driving dangerously, without a licence, insurance or headgear, and failing to stop after an accident in July.

A 16-year-old girl was hit by the bike, which had two men on, in Ryde High Street, on 5 January. The incident was also captured on CCTV.

As well as being sentenced to 86 weeks suspended for 18 months, Douglas was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.

CCTV footage from The Star Coffee & Ale House showed one of the men talking to the girl after she lay on the ground, while the other man ran away with the bike.

The girl was not left with serious injuries and was helped into a takeaway by a man.

The Star owner Rob Lyttleton previously said there was "no excuse for the lads to tag team a bike that was motorised at that speed in these conditions".

The road is fully pedestrianised except between 6am and 10am for deliveries and he said, "she was not expecting a vehicle at such speed to hit her in this area."
