Drivers warned of hour-long M56 delays after crash

Drivers using one of the major motorways across north-west England are being warned to expect severe delays after a multi-vehicle crash on Friday.

Motorists have been warned to expect hour-long delays on the M56 westbound following the reported collision between junction 11 (Warrington) and junction 12 (Runcorn) at approximately 10:15 GMT.

National Highways North West said one lane remains closed in the Cheshire area, and warned drivers to expect, "long delays on approach of at least 60 minutes above normal travel times".

"Please allow extra time for your journey," concluded the post on X, external.

Cheshire Police said: "At 10.15am on Friday 31 October, police were called to a multiple vehicle collision on the M56 westbound between 11 and 12.

"The collision involved two vans and a car. It appears to be a minor injury collision at this stage."
