Part of the A2 in Kent is closed after a multiple vehicle crash, highways officers say.

Officials have closed the eastbound carriageway near Gravesend, between the junctions with the A2260 and the A227, following the "serious collision".

According to Kent Fire and Rescue Service, one person was attended to by an air ambulance crew.

National Highways said: "Due to the severity of the incident, accident investigations are underway and the road is likely to remain closed for several hours."

According to the agency, traffic is being diverted through part of Northfleet.

Kent Police said it was called at 05:20 GMT, along with other emergency services.

The fire service said it had cut one person from a vehicle.
