A man has been jailed after deliberately hurling a brick through a car window causing "catastrophic" brain injuries to the driver.

Robert Dickson attacked victim Aaron Kerr as he reversed his car to try and get away in Bentinck Street, Birkenhead, on 21 June, 2022.

Liverpool Crown Court heard Dickson had "lost his temper" after the two men had been involved in a confrontation earlier that evening, but Mr Kerr had not co-operated with police.

Dickson, of Gladstone Close in Birkenhead, who had 27 previous convictions, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and was jailed for two years.

Fractured skull

The court heard Mr Kerr sustained fractures to the front of his skull and face and had bruising and bleeding on the brain.

He had to be placed in an induced coma and undergo urgent and complex surgery at the specialist Walton Centre hospital in Fazakerley, Liverpool.

Judge Andrew Menary KC, the Recorder of Liverpool, described the injuries as “catastrophic” and “life-threatening”.
