Det Ch Insp John Caldwell was shot and seriously injured in 2023

Two men have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder of Det Ch Insp John Caldwell in February 2023.

The senior detective was off duty when he was shot several times at a sports complex after coaching a youth football team in Omagh, County Tyrone.

Police say one of the men, aged 45, was arrested in the Stewartstown area and the other, aged 25, was arrested in west Belfast.

A property in west Belfast was searched and a vehicle has been seized.

The men were detained under the Terrorism Act on Monday and were taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
