Stabbing leaves man with life-threatening injuries

A man has suffered life-threatening injuries in a stabbing in Weston-super-Mare, police have said.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers were investigating a serious assault on Ashcombe Road at about 03:15 BST.

The force referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct "in relation to an individual being injured following prior police contact".

The victim was in a critical but stable condition in hospital, police said.

A scene guard was in place between Locking Road and Earlham Grove.

Police said inquiries were ongoing and anyone with information should contact them.
