A voluntary group that helps homeless people in Lincoln has announced it will be opening a cafe.

Let Them Eat Cake will open the Nite Bite Cafe at St Luke and St Martin's Church Hall in Birchwood on 4 October.

Marion Foster, chair of the group, said a hot drink and a meal will be served on Fridays from 18:30 to 21:00 BST for those who are lonely, struggling for money or homeless.

The non-profit organisation gives out hot food, drinks, clothing, sleeping bags and more on Mondays as well as running a shower and laundry facility at Mint Lane Cafe on Tuesdays.

Ms Foster said: "The people we help are out in all elements so we were just looking for something we could do to give them a couple hours of normality.

"In this day and age there's a lot of lonely people, no one will be turned away."

As well as homeless people, the group helps those who are sofa-surfing and have nowhere safe to go during the day.

Ms Foster added: "Over the last few weeks the numbers have definitely increased and we have seen a lot of new faces.

"It's a really worthwhile thing that we do and we just want to make their lives a little bit easier."

The group is holding a charity night on 20 September from 16:00 until 21:00 BST at The Lincoln Green pub to help raise funds for the new cafe.

Donations of dinner plates, pudding bowls and cutlery are sought by the group, which was founded in 2017.
