Paralympic medals won by British swimmer Marc Woods are among the sporting memorabilia going on show in Grimsby.

North East Lincolnshire Council said its Hometown Heroes: A Celebration of Sport exhibition would highlight and praise the area's sporting achievements.

The exhibition, also featuring kit worn by javelin thrower Hollie Arnold, opens on 20 July at Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre.

Collections officer Louise Bowen said the displays would "champion the physical, mental and social benefits of taking part in sport and staying active".

Motorbike leathers worn by racer and TV presenter Guy Martin, BBC Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton’s glitterball and a medal won by Paralympic sprinter Zac Shaw will also be on show.

Ms Bowen said the curation celebrated "stories of personal triumph", as well as community clubs and organisations.

Woods has won 12 Paralympic medals from five Games.

At the age of 17, he had his left leg amputated because of cancer and during his swimming career won 21 medals from European and world championships, as well achieving Paralympic success.

Visually impaired sprinter Shaw won a T12 100m bronze medal in the Para Athletics World Championships in Paris last year.

Former Isle of Man TT rider Martin has also presented TV programmes on various engineering topics, while Clifton is best known for being on the Strictly line-up.

The exhibition at the centre's Muriel Baker Gallery runs until 31 December.

Previously, North East Lincolnshire Council stated medals belonging to Arnold would form part of the exhibited. However, the authority has since clarified only items of the athlete's kit will now be on show.

Arnold, who was born missing part of her right arm, competes in class F46 and won gold at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020.
