Safety inspectors will carry out works on Coast Road this week

Drivers are being warned to expect noise and travel disruption during overnight works on a busy road.

From Wednesday, there will be three nights of lane restrictions on the A1058 Coast Road in North Tyneside, between the Wills Building and the Silverlink Junction.

A one mile (1.5km) section of the road's outside lanes will be closed in both directions between 20:00 and 06:00 GMT.

It is so workers can inspect the safety barriers ahead of improvement works, external, North Tyneside council said.

'Unavoidable noise'

The A1058 Coast Road is a major commuter route connecting Jesmond to Tynemouth.

The lane closures come after a inspection found evidence of corrosion on the central reservation safety barrier.

The local authority said there would be some unavoidable noise during the inspection as it will involve breaking out sections of the concrete.

North Tyneside Council apologised for any inconvenience.
