Engineers investigate Christmas lights fault

Engineers in Guernsey have been made aware of a fault which is affecting the Christmas lights installed along one street.
Residents reported an issue with the lights on Smith Street in St Peter Port as they were not all working.
The annual switch on took place on Saturday, with organisers confirming there had been "a few issues" since then.
Guernsey Electricity said a temporary solution had been developed, but a more permanent fix would be prioritised for delivery in the New Year.
Temporary solution
It said: "GEL Engineers have been made aware of a streetlight service fault in town which is affecting a small number of the Christmas lights installed along Smith Street.
"The issue has been investigated and will unfortunately require works to be undertaken to deliver a permanent fix.
"To avoid these works being unduly disruptive to traders and shoppers over the busy Christmas period, they will be prioritised for delivery in the New Year."
In the meantime, a temporary solution has been developed, which requires power to be taken from a different location in town.
Jax Robin, chair of the St Peter Port Christmas Lights, said most of the issues were caused by the lights tripping.
"Since switch on we’ve had a few issues, we have electrical faults mainly.
"Everything was working once it was put up, it was working a matter of days before, but as usual problems happen.
"Teams are working out there, trying to sort things out."
