Two overnight burglaries of village Co-op stores are believed to be linked, police said.

The store in Carter Street, in Fordham, was targeted at about 01: 55 BST when three people broke in and stole cash, Cambridgeshire Police said.

The second burglary happened at about 02:30 at the Co-op in Girton Road in Girton, and money was again taken.

No arrests have yet been made.

The shutters at the Girton store appear to have had a square cut out of them by the burglars so they could gain access.

Det Sgt Jonathan Lockwood, said: "We have a team working to investigate the burglaries, which we believe are linked.

"We are aware this is not the first incident of its kind in the area and we understand this is very concerning for those involved and the local communities.

"Extra patrols are also taking place in the area."

He appealed for anyone who might have footage or CCTV of the incidents to get in touch.
