Police are urging witnesses to come forward after three men died in a two-car collision in Nottinghamshire.

A 23-year-old driver and two passengers aged 19 and 21 in a Volkswagen Golf died at the scene on Cotgrave Road, Tollerton at about 23:00 on 22 May.

Nottinghamshire Police said a man in a blue Volkswagen Golf, aged 26, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 20-year-old man who was in the blue car was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and had since been released under police bail, the force added.

Sgt Charlotte Henson, of Nottinghamshire Police's serious collision investigation unit, said: "Our sympathies remain with the families and friends that have lost their loved ones and we ask that the public respect their privacy at this time.

"The families continue to be supported by our specially trained officers.

"We're committed to getting to the bottom of what happened here, so would plead with anyone who has any information about this, however small it may seem, to contact the police.

"This includes any dash-cam or CCTV footage taken in the Tollerton area, as this could really assist us with our inquiries."

Cotgrave Road was closed from the A606 to Tollerton Lane on the night of the crash and remained shut into the following afternoon.
