Call for experienced marshals to come forward

People with previous experience of marshalling at the Manx Grand Prix have been encouraged to sign up for the 2024 event.
A total of 575 marshals are needed to man the 37.75-mile (60km) Mountain Course for each qualifying and race session.
Chairman of the Isle of Man TT Marshals Association Jane Corlett said a "positive number" of novices had signed up with the hope of being a senior marshal in future.
But the organisation was "reliant on the more experienced marshals, who take new recruits under their wings and do a lot of that practical training", she said.
Anyone new to marshalling who wants to volunteer for the event must complete two online training modules as part of the signing up process, and will be positioned on the course with experienced marshals.
The first competitors set to take to the course during Sunday's opening qualifying session will be the newcomers, who will be led out on a speed-controlled lap at 13:30 BST.
But before that can happen, the required number of marshals need to be strategically positioned around the course.
Ms Corlett said having a greater number of marshals with in-depth knowledge of operating radios, emergency aid and flagging events in the case of of an incident made it easier for the association to manage figures around the 12 sectors.
"We would only have so many new recruits working with those who have greater experience," she said.
"It makes us feel a lot more comfortable be we know we’ve got a higher percentage of experienced marshals around the course for everyone's safety," she added.
Those who do sign up can choose which sessions they want to cover during the event event which runs from 18 to 26 August.
