A 30-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a father-of-two in Cobh, County Cork.

Ian Baitson, 33, died in hospital on 19 March four days after being injured in an assault on the Newtown Road in Cobh.

Dylan Scannell, with an address at O'Rahilly Street, Cobh, was brought before a special sitting of the district court in Midleton on Monday.

He was charged with the murder of Mr Baitson.

A police detective gave evidence of arresting Mr Scannell on Sunday and said he made no reply when charged and cautioned.
