A new £3m events space to host concerts, markets and other entertainment in a Lancashire seaside town has been approved.

The St Annes Event Space project for around St Annes Square West includes an amphitheatre-style seating in the space.

The leader of Fylde Council said it would serve as a hub for events and activities and attract more people to the town as well as foster a "greater sense of community" and boost the local regeneration.

Work on the scheme is set to start in September with the aim of opening in spring.

'Prosper'

As well as the main event square, the plans will see improvements to lighting, signage and CCTV.

Surrounding streets would be blocked off to traffic when events are held.

Leader of Fylde Council and lead member for corporate and economic development, councillor Karen Buckley, said at the "heart" of the masterplan was the council's desire to "help St Annes develop and prosper".

She added: "The event space will achieve this, bringing more people into the town centre to enjoy the hospitality, shops and businesses on offer.

"These exciting enhancements, developed based on feedback from the community, ensure that the space will serve as a hub for events and activities, fostering a greater sense of community and boosting local regeneration."
