Pedestrian, 18, dies after HGV collision on M74

An 18-year-old man has died after he was involved in a collision involving an HGV on the M74 in Lanarkshire.

Police received a report of a man seen walking on the road about 03:10 on Saturday near junction six for Hamilton on the southbound motorway.

A further report was received after the man was struck by a vehicle where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed to allow police to conduct investigations and was fully reopened around 13:00.

Inquiries are underway police ask anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch, external.

Sgt John Houston said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the 18-year-old man, as well as everyone else affected by this tragic incident.

“We working to establish the full circumstances and would urge anyone who may have information to come forward.

“We would be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a man walking on the M74 between junctions six and seven, as well as anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area."
