Train disruption after van blocks railway line

Rail passengers faced delays and cancellations after a vehicle blocked a railway line in Worcestershire.

Police were called to the scene near Henwick Road, Worcester, at about 04:00 GMT on Monday.

Photos of the scene showed a white van on the railway bridge over Hylton Road and the River Severn.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Railway confirmed via X at 09:17 GMT that the vehicle had been cleared.

Train services resumed on the line at 09:50 GMT following safety checks.

The spokesperson added the vehicle was believed to have entered the railway at Henwick Level Crossing.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police told the BBC it was "continuing to investigate the incident" and would be working with West Mercia Police.
