Four jailed for street fight that left one in coma

Four men have been jailed for a fight in the street with weapons, which resulted in one of them having to be put into a medically-induced coma due to his injuries.
The violence broke out on Davenport Avenue, Crewe, at about 18:30 on Sunday 13 August 2023.
Two knives and a metal bar were found at the scene, and it was a "miracle" no other serious injuries were caused, said Cheshire Police.
The four were jailed at Chester Crown Court for offences including violent disorder, affray and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
“Not only did this incident cause very serious injuries to one of the men involved, but it also occurred in broad daylight in a street with members of the public present," said Det Con Graham Lee.
"This behaviour could easily have ended up hurting innocent people in the vicinity that evening and it is a miracle that no other serious injuries were caused."
Christopher Rawlings from Wistaston sustained deep cuts to his head in the violence, and was placed in a medically-induced coma in hospital.
The 45-year-old admitted violent disorder and possession of a bladed article in a public place, and was sentenced to 21 months in prison.
Nathan Thomas, 36, of Worsley, was sentenced to two years after being found guilty of violent disorder.
Nigel Dunn, 45, of Crewe, who suffered a fractured collarbone and elbow in the fight, was sentenced to 20 months after admitting violent disorder.
Richard Wharton, 44, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 18 months after pleading guilty to affray.
