Police have said dispersal orders will be put in place in response to information about a possible car meet.

The measures will cover Chelmsford, Braintree and parts of Maldon in Essex between 17:00 BST on Saturday until 05:00 on Sunday.

The dispersal orders would give officers powers to direct anyone suspected of causing anti-social behaviour to leave the area or face arrest.

"Taking this action will hopefully prevent the event from taking place," said Insp Philip Jackson.

"We know real issues have been caused for people living nearby during past events of this nature.

"This includes concerns arising over the noise and nature of the driving during these events."

Insp Jackson said previous events had led to collisions, crime and disorder, as well as roads being blocked for races.
