Firefighters have spent the night tackling a large blaze at a recycling plant in Nottinghamshire.

The fire in Jockey Lane, Elkesley, was reported to Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service at 19:43 BST on Wednesday.

Several engines and the aerial ladder platform remained at the scene on Thursday dampening down the blaze, the service said.

Approximately 10,000 tonnes of timber, scrap metal and machinery were involved in the fire, a spokesperson added.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

At the height of the blaze, 80 firefighters were deployed and residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Please continue to avoid the area, we will be here all day. A fire investigation is scheduled for later."
