Refuge for male victims of domestic abuse opens

Two adult males who require low to medium support can now be housed in a flat in Wiltshire

A new refuge centre for male victims of domestic abuse is now open.

It has been opened in partnership with charity Julian House and Wiltshire Council to provide temporary accommodation to adult males fleeing domestic abuse.

Two adult males who require low to medium support can now be housed in a flat in Wiltshire.

Helen Bedser, chief executive of Julian House said: "We are determined to provide the support that male victims in the local community need to recover, regain their independence and build a new life for themselves."

"One in seven men will be a victim of domestic violence in their lifetime," she added.

Staff will provide daily support to residents, who will also have access to an emergency 24-hour on call service.

Professional or self-referrals can be made via Julian House, ManKind or the Male Domestic Abuse Network.
