On-call firefighters are being recruited to work at 26 fire stations across Cornwall.

Cornwall Fire Service said positions were available for anyone aged 18 or above who lives or works within five minutes of a station, with positions available in places including Penzance, Truro, Falmouth and Saltash.

On-call firefighters - who are paid based on their availability and the station's activity rate - only attend their station for emergency call-outs, but do have a weekly two-hour training session to attend and other prearranged duties.

Anyone who is interested in becoming an on-call firefighter has been asked to visit the Cornwall Fire Service website, external.

Chief fire officer Kathryn Billing said 75% of the service's crews are on-call firefighters who all played an "important role" in keeping their communities safe.

Ms Billing added: "We’re looking for people across Cornwall who are ready for a new challenge."
